Simply
put, UT2003 is a Grade A game.
Gameplay/Controls
With me, gameplay has to flow, and the controls have to be sensible.
You know, not to where you have to have 4 hands and 10 fingers
on each hand to play. This is not the case with UT2003. The controls
are simple enough for a beginner to learn, yet if you’re
a hardcore player, there are some more advanced tricks you can
pull on your opponents. It has the widely used first person shooter
controls for the keyboard and mouse, which I find very compatible.
The gameplay is smooth, and nice. I like the
weapons in the game. They all have their little tricks to making
them more effective against the opponent and simple necessary
designs. It has the Lightning Gun (Sniper Rifle), Rocket Launcher
(which can fire three missiles at the same time…not to mention
heat seeking… very nice), and Minigun (with regular bullets,
and explosive tip). Several others make for a type of, what do
you prefer to cap-ass-with guns. I love that. Everything is easily
recognizable and usually easy to get to when your running from
a guy trying to dissipate you.
Graphics
Very detailed. If your computer can handle it and still make for
good smooth gameplay, I would jack the settings all the way up.
The textures are awesome and fit. The death’s are also very
interesting. Between having an arm blown off, organs bouncing
around the stage after a direct hit from a rocket launcher, and
your dead body rolling down the stairs or smashing into pipes
on the way to the floor of a deep room is very entertaining. Many
times I found myself committing suicide simply to see what my
body would do as it limply paraded around. Yes… very entertaining.
The lighting and projectors and other things
add for a very realistic view of the scenery or wall while you
frag the guy running in front of them. Good job Atari.
Extra Stuff
I absolutely love the Editor that comes with this beautiful game.
You can literally make anything you want with it. Whether it be
a new character (which takes a lot of knowledge about the editor)
or new environment, you can do it all. The great thing about it
is, it is rather simple to use, and can make some awesome things.
Knowing the game, and more experience with it makes it a more
valuable tool, but even if you haven’t played the game,
you can make a simple and fun place to play. Oh yeah, I like it.
If you ever have a free day, I suggest learning how to use it,
and do so. You’ll be surprised with what your imagination
can come up with when thinking about places to frag a guy. Your
school, office, even your neighborhood can become a potential
arena. Great isn’t it?

my handwriting)
Plot
Well, there is none. The game is a basic frag till you drop genre.
There is a tournament Single Player where you can choose a team
and duke it out with the worlds best. The only advantage I’ve
seen with this mode is that you can play in some arenas that the
“quick start” mode doesn’t allow. Oh well.
Overall
Overall, I would give this game a very high rating. That is if
we rated things. Good gameplay, great graphics, and cool stuff
that comes with it. Oh yeah, this is a turning point in online
and regular multiplayer games. One of the best PC games out- a
must have. Double thumbs up! |
